How to Find my Family Tree
I first started my passion on how to find my family tree in the early sixties. I started with a plain A3 piece of paper with my mum and dad, grandma and grandad, aunts and uncles. I asked my parents what they knew of their past families. I did not get very far, I think they were hoping that I would soon loose interest. You know, I still have that piece of A3 paper and to this day I am still passionate about who they were and how they lived.
Over the years as the Internet made it possible to do research with genealogy records, my interest increased and I started to find success. After trying out a number of family tree websites I found the best to be Ancestry.co.uk Not only do they have one of the largest number of records but their search facility is the best I have found. The number of times you know the surname but not the maiden name of a marriage. If you can find the male side of the marriage record and you know the first name of the female, Ancestry.co.uk can often find a match.
"But how can I find my family tree?" I hear you ask. Well there are a number of things you can do to make a start.
